Pablo, our class penguin, has a lot to say this week about our new science unit - matter. This week we have been learning about properties of solids. Pablo says, "This week was so awesome! The class pretended that we were stranded on a desert island. We had to make hats to protect ourselves from the sun. I even got my own hat, with help from my friend Landen! Our hats are made with materials that we could find washed up on shore from someone's lunch - a paper towel, aluminum foil, a paper plate, and a paper bag. The plate was useful because it has the property of being stiff, so it would stay on our heads without flopping over. The paper towel is absorbent, so it would soak up sweat. The aluminum is shiny so it could reflect sunlight and help us keep cool. We all can't wait to take our hats home!"
